Muuido Island near Incheon is one of the most popular beach getaways from Seoul, and it has grown in popularity since a road was completed connecting the mainland to the island. Since a ferry ride is no longer required, it is a little more crowded than before, but still plenty of fun.
Hanagae Beach and Silsi Beach are both well-known beaches in Muuido. During low tide at Silmido Island, it’s possible to walk along this remarkable aspect of Silmi Beach.
For the more athletic, hiking up Horyonggoksan Mountain and Guksabong Peak from Hanagae Beach is another alternative. It’s one of the largest tidal flats in Muuido, and its 1-kilometer length of fine-grained sand leads out to mudflats during low tide.
Most beachgoers try to arrive early to enjoy the water before it recedes, and then they dig for conch, crabs, and clams when the tide recedes. They consume it, and the water has returned when they are through.
If you’re feeling the heat in Seoul this summer, head to the beach. There are beaches in the vicinity of Seoul if you’re willing to explore.
Be mindful of your footwear if you remove them and attempt to enter the sea when the tide is low. We observed some floating away because the water returns rapidly when it does return. Remember that the water moves quickly as it recedes and returns.
