Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, is known as an open museum where traditional art that embodies the beauty of Korea coexists with contemporary art that represents the vitality of our times and international art that reflects current values. Leeum aspires to be a museum of convergence, where we consider the future based on our knowledge of the past and present, as well as an institution where culture is enjoyed collectively through active communication with visitors.

Korea’s top art gallery is nestled among the celebrity-owned apartments on Namsan’s lush southern slope. Its three unique rooms are beautifully constructed and laid out, and it mixes modern and contemporary art with traditional Korean art.

The main attraction is Museum 2, a rusting stainless-steel edifice built by French architect Jean Nouvel that houses paintings, sculptures, and installations by renowned Korean and worldwide artists such as Nam June Paik, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, and Jeff Koons.

Museum 1, a terracotta brick castle designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta, features four levels dedicated to Korean painting, calligraphy, pottery, metal and wood craft, and Buddhist art from the Goryeo and Joseon periods. The third floor of the museum is dedicated to special exhibitions. Getting an audioguide is strongly recommended, although you may also attend at 3pm on weekends for free 112-hour English excursions.
